How does audiovisual post-production work?

A. Unwrapping a video
Once filming is complete, our team of editors begins the process of selecting and organizing the rushes. The aim of this stage is to extract the best sequences from your promotional film and organize them in such a way as to optimize the final video edit.
Vocab Point :
- Rush: A “rush” in video refers to a raw, unedited sequence of film recorded during shooting. It is the continuous, uninterrupted recording of the camera, capturing all shots, dialogue and action. The rushes serve as source material for the final cut, before the director and editor select the best moments to create the final version of the film.
B. Video editing
Video editing is where your promotional film comes to life. It’s often said that this is the film’s ” third script “. It’s a time of concessions and sacrifices, because not everything can be edited. Editing must be precise and synthetic. It involves theorganization of visual and sound elements, the cutting of scenes, the addition of special effects, transitions and music, while respecting the chronology or initial script. Just as in cooking, the combination of images in your video is crucial to creating attention and emotion.
Video editing is above all a matter of sensoriality. The rhythm of a video is very important. A one-minute montage might seem very long, whereas a 10-minute montage might seem short because it’s well-paced, punchy, incisive and concise. The art of video editing is above all a question of feeling! There’s no need to censor yourself with an imposed length (unless you’re concerned about the length of a movie or social network broadcast, for example). Our customers often impose a length on us for their promotional film, but without having a precise reason or constraint. In reality, it’s the video editing that sets the tempo and duration of the video. That’s where our skills come into play. A promotional film that you had estimated at 2 minutes may work better in 1min45 or 2min30.
It is also at this stage that, in certain types of videos, infographics, text, etc. are added.
C. Video sound design
Music and sound effects have a significant impact on theemotion of any promotional film. Our videographers add an appropriate soundtrack to the video, to guarantee an auditory experience as immersive as the visual one.
.
1.music
Our team of editors attaches great importance to the selection of music. They must perfectly match the mood, message and purpose of your promotional film. After thorough research, we present you with up to three musical options. Where budget allows, we have the network and experience to work with a professional composer to create a custom score for your video.
.
2. sound design
Point Vocab :
- ASMR: an acronym for “Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response”, ASMR refers to a pleasant, relaxing sensory experience triggered by specific visual, auditory or tactile stimuli.
Sound design plays an essential role in enriching a professional video, making it ” palpable ” by getting the viewer more involved.
Many videographers limit themselves to the use of music, without necessarily adding other sound elements to their promotional film. This creative practice can create a certain distance. A concrete example of the importance of sound design is illustrated by the ASMR phenomenon. What we like about sound design is that it can generate a particular sensory and emotional response , inducing a closeness with the video content.

3. voice-over
The voice-over in a promotional video is the audio narration that accompanies the images. It is very useful for conveying a great deal of information. We work in collaboration with professionals and can offer you different types of voice-overs in different languages, both male and female.
Sometimes we come across films where the videographers have used the client or a member of the video agency to do the voice-over… Don’t fall into this trap! It’s a false economy that will discredit your video by making it look “cheap”, even with a magnificent visual rendering.

C.Final video editing
1. Digital effects
We can use digital effects to create elements that are difficult to capture in conventional shooting, or simply to embellish an image.
Here, for example, are the images from our “Anatomy of Form” documentary project, where we added the appearance of the sun behind the tree:

2. calibration
When our videographers shoot, the resulting images are called “flat”, meaning that they have not been processed: they are raw and rather dull. Calibration therefore concerns the image of your promotional film, and does two things:
- Adjust the color, contrast and brightness of images to achieve a uniform, consistent visual appearance. Our videographers correct potential variations in brightness between different scenes or shots, to create a seamless visual continuity.
- Create a luminous ambience, an atmosphere, with a rather saturated image or, on the contrary, a very cold one, tinted in blue… etc.
Here is an image before and after calibration:

3.mixing
Mixing is all about sound: adjusting volume levels, spatializing sound, adding sound effects and ensuring precise synchronization with the image. The aim is to ensure that the music and sounds added are audible and harmonious within your promotional video.

D. Delivery of the video: the final stage of post-production
In order to optimize the delivery time of the final version of your video, we make a certain number of round trips, agreed with you beforehand, depending on the number of decision-makers in the customer’s company. If two round-trips are agreed, here’s how the schedule would look:
- Delivery of V1 to customer
- Receive customer feedback in a single e-mail
- We make the requested changes
- Delivery of V2 to customer
- Receipt of a second consolidated return (if necessary)
- We apply the customer’s comments and deliver the final version
.
That says it all!
That’s how our video agency works. Every phase, from post-production onwards, is meticulously coordinated to exceed your expectations.
Video production is our art, and we’re delighted to invite you to join us on this creative adventure.
